Born on a Kibbutz by the Mediterranean Sea to an English father and an Israeli mother Shannie was raised bilingual. After spending a few years in England with his parents, Shannie came back in 1976 with his parents to be pioneers in the Sinai Peninsula where he spent his elementary school years and fell in love with the desert. In 1982 he moved to Arad in the Judean desert where he graduated high school. In 1991 after a full army service in a combat unit, he worked in construction building houses for the Russian immigrants around the country, and then headed out to tour around the world on a motorcycle for two and a half years. On return he started to lead desert tours and got his degree in Land of Israel Studies from the Tel Aviv branch of Haifa University, to finish top of his class in 1997, and has been working as a guide ever since. Shannie owns a brand new, six passenger VW van. If you want a youthful guide with an excellent sense of humor, Shannie is definitely your man.
